Parasites
By Meghan Swidler, Functional Health + Detox Practitioner · Updated October 27, 2026
Meghan has guided hundreds of clients through her proprietary five-phase method since 2021: drainage, then the gut, the liver, parasites, and mold and heavy metals, in the order the body heals.
What are the signs of parasites in humans?
Common signs of parasites include sugar cravings that won't quit, bloating or gas after meals, waking between 2 and 4am, grinding your teeth at night, constipation or irregular bowel movements, and itchy skin or rashes. Meghan says parasites are far more common than most people think, and most of her clients pass them during the work. Other signs she watches for:
- Brain fog, mood swings, or anxiety and irritability with no clear reason
- Muscle and joint pain that moves around
- Fatigue no lab explains
- Itching that comes and goes
Stool tests often miss them. Parasites aren't shed in every stool, which is why CDC guidance calls for 3 samples taken a few days apart. They can also hide behind protective biofilms or sit deeper than a single sample shows, and many panels screen only for common species. Meghan has seen clients with all-clear comprehensive stool tests pass dozens once guided parasite work began, so she treats symptoms as the better guide and a negative test as inconclusive. Parasites thrive in a compromised terrain (low stomach acid, a weakened gut lining, sluggish drainage, candida, mold and metals), which is why clearing them without fixing the terrain tends to bring them back. Her steps:
- Get the colon moving every day first
- Filter your water, wash produce well and avoid undercooked meat and fish
- Save parasite work for Phase 4, after drainage, the gut and the liver are working, and do it with guidance
Unexplained weight loss, signs of anemia, numbness, tingling or confusion need a doctor's evaluation first. Her free Detox Phase Quiz shows where to start.
